Death of Richard P. McLaughlin II, ’07

Richard Paul McLaughlin II, 25, suddenly died in Charleston, S.C., on
November 5, due to heart failure. He was born June 1, 1984, in Baltimore
and raised in the Severna Park and Annapolis areas. Richard attended
Severna Park Middle School, Fishburne Military Academy in Waynesboro,
Va., graduated from Broadneck High School in Annapolis, and continued
his academics at The Citadel in Charleston, S.C. Richard was a member of
the college R.O.T.C., a member of the rifle team, the secretary of the
Key Club, was an event coordinator, and was involved in many facets of
concert promotions. He was an all around athlete, mainly (MVP) ice
hockey & lacrosse. He received the Student of the Month Award for
Interest of Law. Richard is survived by his father, Richard P.
McLaughlin of Annapolis; his mother, Anne E. Majer of Severna Park; his
sister, Erin S. McLaughlin of Baltimore; his brother, Ryan P. Shields of
Stevensville; his cousin, Lauren K. Benko of Millersville; and his
grandparents, F.C. & Mary McLaughlin, Capt. Richard & Margo Thiele, and
Capt. James & Rosemary Majer. A Memorial Visitation and Service will be
held on Sunday, November 15, from 12-4 p.m., at Barranco & Sons Funeral
Home, 495 Gov. Ritchie Highway, Severna Park. Online condolences may be
