Death of Francis M. McCormick, ’48

Francis Miller McCormick, 84, of Spartanburg, passed away on Sunday,
November 1, 2009, at the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born July 3,
1925 in Spartanburg, he was the son of the late Benjamin Franklin and
Virginia Miller McCormick. He was retired from a career in the
professional engineering business, a 1948 graduate from the Citadel, and
served in the U.S. Army in World War II and the Korean Conflict. He was
a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. Survivors include his wife
of 57 years, Esther Castro McCormick; a son, Miller McCormick; two
daughters, Cynthia Thomas and husband Bill Thomas, and Laurie Copley and
husband Nowell Copley; seven grandchildren, Brooks and Katherine
McCormick, Wesley and Grace Thomas, Virginia Copley Tate and husband
Shelton Tate, Laura Copley Allen and husband Michael Allen, and John
Andrew Copley; and a great-granddaughter, Eliza Noelle Copley Allen. He
was preceded in death by his sister, Barbara Ann McCormick Wallace. The
family will receive friends at their home on Tuesday, November 3, 2009
from 5:30 PM to 8:00 PM. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday,
November 4, 2009 at 11:00 AM at Trinity United Methodist Church, 629
Norwood Street, Spartanburg, SC, conducted by Rev. Dr. Steve Holler and
Rev. Mickey Fisher. A private interment will be held at the church
columbarium. In remembrance of Mr. McCormick, memorials may be made to
the Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive,
Spartanburg, SC 29303; or Trinity United Methodist Church, 626 Norwood
