William Henry Hobson III, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, S.C. and Asheville, N.C.
died Saturday (May 23, 2009) after a short illness at his home. Born in
Salisbury, N.C., he was the son of the late Edwin Morris Hobson and
Helen Sumner Hobson. He graduated from the Citadel in Charleston, S.C.
in 1956. He went to work for Raymond Concrete and Pile in Virginia and
New York prior to founding his own company, Hobson Construction Company
in Arden, North Carolina. He was extremely active in the Association of
General Contractors (AGC), President of North Carolina Society of
Engineers as well as many other related associations. He donated to many
charities including the Eliada Home for Children and The Spirit of South
Carolina (South Carolina Maritime Heritage Foundation). He was preceded
in death by his brother, Edwin Morris Hobson, sisters Anne Morehead
Hobson-Murdoch, and Sophie Sumner Hobson-Mulligan. Survivors include his
wife Barbara Brown-Hobson, whom he married in 1983; daughters Elizabeth
Hobson-Kunz, Columbus OH, Mary Helen Hobson, San Diego, CA and Lynn
Hobson-Kelly, Los Angeles, CA, stepchildren Cynthia Keller and Jeffery
Keller, Mt. Pleasant, SC, Chuck Macdonald, Denver, CO, Susan Macdonald,
Asheville, NC, Lisa Macdonald, Charlotte, SC and two grandchildren,
Benjamin Kunz, and Ava Kelly. Arrangements are entrusted to Stuhr
Funeral Home of Mt Pleasant, SC. The family will honor Bill’s request
for a private service. In lieu of flowers, Bill requested that memorial
contributions in memory of him be sent to Eliada Home for Children,
