Gary Davis May was born September 3, 1936 in Rock Hill, SC, son of Ralph
Calhoun May and Frances Davis May. He attended the Citadel and was a proud
member of the Class of 1959. Upon graduating from the Citadel he entered the
Textile Industry and his entrepreneurial spirit led him to found FransChem,
Inc. in 1973. His drive had him traveling around the world for business and
pleasure, making lifelong friends and business associates. He was known to
be a history buff and lived life to the fullest which included sailing,
flying, drinking single malt scotch and smoking fine cigars. He was an
active member of both St. Philips Church and The Carolina Yacht Club. He is
survived by his wife of 47 years, Josephine Comer May; daughters, Frances
Thrasher and Allyson May both of Atlanta ,GA; grandchildren, Parker Calhoun
Thrasher and Allyson Josephine Thrasher both of Atlanta, GA; brother, Ralph
Calhoun May, Jr. of Greenville, SC; and sister, Marion Louise Pressley of
Rock Hill, SC. Gary May, 76, of Charleston, SC entered into eternal rest
Wednesday, March 13, 2013. A memorial service will be held Monday, March 18,
2013 at St. Philips Church, Downtown, 142 Church St. at 11:00 am. Burial
will be private. The family will receive friends Sunday from 1-3 pm in J.
Henry Stuhr, Inc., Downtown Chapel, 232 Calhoun St. In lieu of flowers,
memorials may be made to the Brigadier Foundation Class of 1959 or the
