John H. Roberts, Jr., ’60

John Hilson Roberts, Jr., of Charleston, entered into eternal rest on
Wednesday, February 27, 2013 at the home of his son, John H. Roberts III in
Bonneau Beach, SC. He was born on October 8, 1932, the son of John Hilson
Roberts (1900-1976) and Ena Victoria Seel Roberts (1908-1978). He served in
the United States Navy for four years during the Korean Conflict. Upon
returning, he attended The Citadel graduating in 1960. He was a retired
electrical engineer at the Charleston Naval Shipyard where he worked for
thirty-five years. He was a loyal member of the North Charleston United
Methodist Church for over fifty years. He was a loving husband, father,
grandfather and great-grandfather who is survived by his wife of 58 years,
Susan Ligon Roberts, and their three children, Sandra Kay Lambert of
Massachusetts, Vickie Leedy (Kevin) of Charleston, SC and John Hilson
Roberts III (Sherry) of Bonneau Beach, SC; grandchildren Stacey VanSpronsen,
Sierra Roberts, John H. Roberts IV, Mary Roberts, Heather Murray, Brittany
McBride, Allison Lebert; and several great-grandchildren; his brothers
Richard W. Roberts (Linda), Donald E. Roberts (Joanne), and Robert E.
“Bobby” Roberts (Darlene); and sisters Gloria Amerson, Shirley R. Paige
(Emppie), and Joan D. Sides (Ralph). The family will receive visitors at
CAROLINA MEMORIAL FUNERAL HOME between 5:00 – 7:00 pm on Saturday, March 2,
2013. Funeral services will be held at North Charleston United Methodist
Church, 1125 E. Montague Avenue in North Charleston, SC on Sunday, March 3,
2013 at 3:00 pm. Burial will follow in CAROLINA MEMORIAL PARK, 7113 Rivers
Avenue, North Charleston, SC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to
Hospice of Charleston, 4975 Lacross Road, Suite 200, North Charleston, SC
