James B. Huftalen, Sr., ’73
James B. Huftalen Sr., 89, of Hendersonville, North Carolina, passed away
peacefully January 3, 2013, at the Carolina Village Medical Center. He was
born in 1923 in Meridale, NY. He attended the Citadel, and served in
European Theater in the U.S. Army. He received his B.S. from Hobart College
and his M.A. from Syracuse University. He was a research scientist for 36
years for Bristol Myers in Syracuse, NY. Jim and Inez Rhodes married in 1943
and raised their six children in Syracuse, NY and later in Cazenovia, NY. He
retired and resided in Franklin, NY before moving to Hendersonville in 1999.
Survived by his wife of 69 years, Inez Rhodes Huftalen; his children, Jean
(Paul) Holmberg, James (Veronica) Huftalen Jr., David (Kathleen) Huftalen,
Judith (Kevin) Wolfe, Richard (Cindy) Huftalen, and Susan (Mark) Yaguda; 16
grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on
January 26 at 2 p.m. at Carolina Village Retirement Center in
Hendersonville, North Carolina. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in
