Ralph L. Lenz, ’49
Ralph Lawton Lenz, 84, of Houston, Texas entered peacefully into eternal
rest on Monday, December 17, 2012. Lawton was born December 15, 1928 to
George C. and Grace L. Lenz of Augusta, GA. He graduated in 1945 from Boys
Catholic High School (GA) continuing and completing his education at The
Citadel (1949) with a Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering. He then
served with the Naval Research Laboratory in Washington, D.C., working on
the circuitry of the USS Midway. He returned to South Carolina to work for
DuPont and was transferred to Beaumont, Texas, in 1960. Lawton moved to
Houston in 1969 to work for S&B Engineering and Construction and later Fluor
Daniel. He worked in Saudi Arabia for 8 years before he retired in Houston
in 1993. Lawton also served our country in the Army National Guard and Air
National Guard of Texas. He received many honors, including awards for
marksmanship and leadership and retired with the rank of Major. Lawton is
preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Janet. Lawton was an
active member at St. Thomas More Catholic Church and a volunteer in many
capacities. He served as the president of The Maplewood Civic Club for 10
years. He had a great devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus and will be
remembered for his deep and abiding faith, strong moral character, clever
wit, and unwavering dedication to his family. He will also be missed on the
golf course and in the garden. We will miss you Grampy. Left to cherish his
memories are his children: Dr. Matthew Lenz (Mary Carol), Eric Lenz (Donna),
Margaret Lenz, Susan Kelley (Skiles), Jennifer Mason (Chris), 18
grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, brother George Lenz (Peggy), and
sister Louise Landry. He also leaves numerous nieces and nephews and a host
of friends. The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the doctors
and nurses at Methodist Hospital and Medical Clinic of Houston and the
caregivers who gave so generously of their love, kindness, and
encouragement. The visitation and Rosary will be held at St. Thomas More
Catholic Church, 10330 Hillcroft St., at 7:00 PM on Friday, December 21,
2012. Funeral Mass will be held at St. Thomas More Catholic Church on
Saturday, December 22, 2012 at 10:30 AM. Interment to follow at Forest Park
Lawndale. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Thomas More
Catholic Church, The Texas Right to Life Foundation, or Houston Life
Advocates.
