Adam S. Gilmour, ’60

Adam Stewart Gilmour, 73, entered into rest on Wednesday, May 2, 2012,
surrounded by his family at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center of
Augusta. Mr. Gilmour was a proud 1960 graduate of The Citadel in Charleston,
S.C. He received his master of business administration at the Babcock
Graduate School of Management at Wake Forest University. He served his
country for 23 years as an Army officer with two tours of duty in the
Vietnam War. Mr. Gilmour received five Bronze Stars, Army Commendation Medal
and other honors. He was an honor graduate of the Army Command General Staff
College at Fort Leavenworth, Kan., and the Army War College, Carlisle. Mr.
Gilmour retired as an LTC and started his new career as an assistant general
manager for administration at Wakenhut Services. He retired on 2006 after 23
years. He was an avid golfer and a member of the Westlake Country Club for
22 years. Mr. Gilmour was a member of St. Mary on the Hill Catholic Church
where he served as an Extraordinary Minister of the Eucharist and Perpetual
Adorer of the Blessed Sacrament. Family members include his wife of 51
years, Mrs. Ann Bolchoz Gilmour; a son, Col. Gregory S. Gilmour (Kathy);
daughters, Alycia Watson (Joseph) and Christine; grandsons, Matthew Adam
Gilmour, Blake Arthur Gilmour and Christopher Allen Watson; granddaughters,
Marissa Noel Gilmour and Anne-Marie Holley Watson; sister, Carol Parks
(Thomas, Sr.); mother, Twila Hemminger Gilmour; nephew, Thomas Parks Jr.;
nieces, Colleen Miller and Tammy Fletcher; and furry companion Chuckie. Mr.
Gilmour was preceded in death by his father, Robert Gilmour. A Mass of
Resurrection will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at St. Mary on the Hill
Catholic Church, with the Rev. Jayarraju Koppula officiating. Interment will
follow at Westover Memorial Park with full military honors. Honorary
pallbearers will be Lt. Gen. (Ret.) Bruce Harris, Col. (Ret.) Michael Boos,
Col. (Ret.) Robert Borer, Lt. Col. (Ret.) Arthur Graves, Chief Master Sgt.
Eugene Kowalczyk, Sr. Master Sgt. Richard Schultz, Eugene McCarthy, Robert
Oliver, Mark Jennings, W.D. Hatley, Robert Sutton and Brig. Gen. Jeffrey W.
Foley. A Holy Vigil Service will be held Friday evening beginning at 5 p.m.
in the Chapel at Thomas Poteet & Son. The family will receive friends
following the Vigil Service until 7 p.m. at Thomas Poteet & Son Funeral
